Carroll Daniel is committed to building opportunities for the future workforce. As part of this commitment, we host Northeast Georgia (NEGA) Skills Challenge each year in partnership with the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Georgia. This event, supported by other AGC member contracting firms, introduces students to rewarding construction careers, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and interact with industry professionals. Many students also receive job offers from attending representatives.
The NEGA Skills Challenge is one of eight regional competitions held across the state each year. This Skills Challenge series offers high school students in construction programs the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in a real-world setting while competing for awards and technical training scholarships. Judged by experienced industry professionals, these competitions serve as a valuable introduction for young talent interested in careers within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industries.
13
DIFFERENT TRADE COMPETITIONS
This year, we welcomed over 500 student competitors from 20 regional schools who who tested their skills in 13 trade categories, including carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, welding, and more.
The Skills Challenge, created by AGC of Georgia, addresses the critical workforce shortage facing the AEC industry at state and national levels. As part of a statewide workforce development initiative, the event promotes the importance of construction training in public education.
Community and industry engagement are essential to the event’s success. Carroll Daniel works closely with state and regional leaders to introduce them to this workforce development program and highlight career paths in the AEC industry. The Skills Challenge events bridge high school students to technical and trade colleges, providing hands-on learning and building awareness of AGC of Georgia’s initiatives, while underscoring the future workforce’s impact on our economy.
Since its inception, the NEGA Skills Challenge has grown to over 500 competitors from 20 school construction programs. Across Georgia, eight regional Skills Challenges now attract over 2,300 students from over 100 schools.
