Building Strong Foundations in the Heart Of Atlanta
The KIPP Atlanta Collegiate project included an expansion within an existing building and major renovations throughout the campus. Working on an occupied campus, the project team worked closely to ensure safety for students, staff, and subcontractor partners.
Expanding Upward – Inside an Existing Building
The most challenging portion of this project involved building a new “KIPP to College” second floor addition within an existing building. The project team had to carefully work inside the existing lower level to provide the foundation and support needed for the new interior second floor. Steel had to be erected and concrete poured within the indoor, elevated space, with all materials and equipment going through the first floor and up 15 feet.
KIPP to College: Building Communities
Carroll Daniel looks for ways to give back to the communities in which we work. Despite the fact that nationally, only 10% of low-income students of color graduate from college, over 80% of KIPP students pursue a college degree after high school. In honor of the KIPP to College expansion and our outstanding partnership with this program and its founders, we created the Ra’Chel Ford Scholarship Fund, giving $5,000 to a deserving KIPP student who plans to pursue a college education.
